CHANGING THE SONG

After months of preparation for our music video, Lauren and I decided that it was our only option was to change the song and idea. This was due to several factors...
Gaining authorisation of the song, organising our locations, safety precautions and complexity.

Gaining Authorisation

When trying to contact the major conglomerates in order to get their approval to use their song, we faced many difficulties; we couldn't get through to the company and there was a confusion with who Modstep (the band who sings the song) were actually signed to.

Organising Locations
Deciding what locations to use, we chose the embankment. However, we would of been filming the public eye as well as shop keepers and those selling food. This would have been a major problem as we would have had to print out many consent forms and ask random people if they could be in our music video. People might have said no therefore we couldn't have filmed our music video. Also, transporting the equipment to such far areas could be risky as it could be either harmed or stolen.

Safety Precautions

As one our location choices was a friends house party, there were too many safety precautions. Firstly, there may be drunk people who could affect not only themselves but also the actors or equipment. At the embankment shoot we intended on filming at a skate park. This in itself is a dangerous idea, as it involves a lot of movement/activity which could harm the actors or equipment. We also planned on filming a girl throw a rock at a mirror. This would have been exceedingly harmful as the debris from the mirror may shatter and hit someone in their eye, or other parts of their body.

Complexity

One of the main reasons why we chose to eliminate this idea for our music video was as a result of it's complexity. We chose to shoot the video at over 4 locations ,(a house party, embankment, mill hill, a field, Mcdonalds) half of which we hadn't even gained authorisation or consent for, which is extremely unrealistic. Furthermore, the number of individuals we intended to film was an abnormally large amount (over 100- considering we were filming some scenes at a large party) and too many consent forms would have to be printed.

Our new song choice
Lauren and I have established a consensus and chosen to use the song 'Lollipop' by Mika as our piece of music to film over. We have chosen a considerably simpler idea, involving only two location and less people. However, our main challenge is that we decided to only film children under the age of 10 years old. This may be difficult as they are much harder to control, and also gaining consent is trickier. Hopefully this will have been a positive change and benefit us in the future.
